FAQ

Where is CoinShares Bitcoin ETP available in the UK?

CoinShares Bitcoin ETP has been listed on the London Stock Exchange since January 2025, available in USD (BITC) and GBP (BITP). UK investors can access the ETP through their existing broker or investment platform.

Can I hold a Bitcoin ETP in my ISA?

Not for new purchases. Since 6 April 2026, HMRC treats crypto exchange traded notes (cETNs) as qualifying investments for an Innovative Finance ISA (IFISA) only. They can no longer be bought within, or transferred into, a stocks and shares ISA.

What is the difference between Bitcoin ETP and Bitcoin ETN?

"Exchange traded product" is the umbrella term for exchange-listed instruments that track an asset - ETFs, ETCs and ETNs all sit beneath it. An "exchange traded note" is the sub-type structured as a debt security rather than as a fund. Every Bitcoin product listed on the London Stock Exchange is structured as a debt security called cETNs (crypto ETN). A Bitcoin ETP and a Bitcoin ETN are therefore the same thing, described at two levels of precision.

Why should I consider exposure to bitcoin?

Bitcoin is a digital asset with features — such as decentralisation and a fixed supply — that distinguish it from traditional investments. Because it behaves differently from other asset classes, some investors look at whether a limited allocation could contribute to diversification. At the same time, bitcoin is highly volatile and its value can change rapidly, so any exposure should be considered carefully, in line with individual objectives and risk tolerance.

What is a Physical Bitcoin ETP?

A physical Bitcoin ETP is an exchange-listed security backed by on-chain Bitcoin held in cold storage. Each unit represents a defined claim on coins stored by a professional custodian. You can see how much crypto is backing your shares by checking the daily Coin Entitlement figure.
